Senior/Principal Electrical Protection Engineer – Section Lead

Reporting to the Head of Power Systems, you will manage and develop a team of talented Substation protection engineers.

You will be a Senior or Principal electrical engineer who is looking to move into your first people management role. You will have extensive protection experience with HV/MV substation projects

You will have:

  • HV/MV Substation protection setting experience.
  • 8+ years post graduate engineering experience developing protection schemes, protection settings, relay configuration files and protection reports along with reviewing protection design. 
  • Experience carrying out Power system analysis using tools such as DigSilent and ETAP.
  • Be passionate about Engineering.
  • Be degree qualified (Washington accord).
  • A strong technical knowledge of specifications, standards and codes.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients to determine the optimal solution to meet their needs
  • Develop and review protection standards/philosophies for clients and internal use.
  • Assist in motivating, mentoring and training team members. 
  • CPEng accreditation, or on your way to achieving it.
  • An analytical approach to problem solving.
  • The capability of demonstrating and living our values of being agile, genuine, and having an inspired, passionate approach to Engineering!
  • Citizenship, or a suitable visa to allow you to work in NZ.

Responsibilities include:

  • Producing high-quality deliverables that leave no questions unanswered.
  • Working with Head of Power Systems and other Power Systems Section Leads.
  • Guiding and developing our junior and intermediate engineers aspiring to be protection engineers.
  • Plan and manage your team resourcing and assist with proposals for protection scope.
  • Actively contribute to successful project inputs, monitoring and outcomes.
  • Delivering successful project documentation and outcomes required to deadlines and budget.
  • Contributing to the company’s quality and health and safety processes.
