Electrical Engineering Interns – Power Systems – Auckland and Christchurch

 As a medium-sized, NZ owned, consultancy with offices in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, & Christchurch Ergo deals with a wide range of electrical and civil engineering projects, giving you many opportunities to grow your skills quickly, with guidance from our experts.  Ergo’s work, in our electrical team, involves conceptual and detailed design, supported by software simulation or modelling, for high voltage trnasmission, power generation and distribution projects.  Our civil and structural team provides general building analysis and design expertise across energy sector and for other projects in New Zealand and Pacific Islands.

Intern Opportunities – Auckland and Christchurch

Over the summer break with Ergo you will experience a range of engineering activities, letting you get a feel of a fast-paced consulting work environment.  You will be involved in assisting with engineering projects, learning relevant skills that will prepare you for a graduate role in the power sector.  The work you will be involved with will directly contribute to actual projects completed by Ergo, giving meaningful work over the summer break.  You will also be assigned a mentor, an experienced engineer from within the business, who will assist you with your training across the summer.

Applications from 2nd and 3rd year Power System Students

Ergo is now accepting applications from students in their second or third year of their degree in electrical engineering for internship roles for the 2024/25 summer break.  It is anticipated that the duration of work will be approximately 10 weeks, in line with university work experience requirements.

Power System Design – specialising in high and medium voltage electrical design for power generation, transmission and distribution companies, and large electricity users.  This work includes substation design, protection, renewable grid connection studies, network studies and earthing studies.

These positions are available to students completing their 2nd or 3rd year of a Bachelor of Engineering and wanting to start their career off in a company committed to the development of Intern Engineers.

In addition, you will need to:

  • have strong, but not necessarily top academic results – we are looking for well-rounded individuals
  • Be a team player
  • Have excellent communication skills in order to effectively interact with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and your colleagues – written and oral.
  • Be an “active” learner.
  • Have a passion for engineering.
