Ergo support’s Top Energy with Ngawha Transmission Substation Upgrades

Ergo is proud to have supported Top Energy with the recently commissioned extension of their Ngāwhā Transmission Substation, a site we originally designed in 2019. The extension enables an (N-1) security connection for the Ngāwhā Geothermal Power Station onto Top Energy’s 110kV network – providing a higher capacity and more secure connection for the baseload power station to connect to the network and ultimately provide reliable, renewable energy to the Northland region.

The project scope included:

  • A new 33/11kV 40MVA transformer at the power station
  • 33kV cabling between the power station and Top Energy’s substation
  • A 33kV switchboard extension
  • A new 110/33kV 80MVA transformer
  • New 110kV transformer, bus coupler and line bays

Ergo’s services included:

  • Client side project management across the design, procurement and construction stages of the project
  • Concept and detailed of the works including:
    • Earthing studies and design
    • Civil and structural design
    • Primary and secondary design
    • Protection studies and settings development
  • Construction and commissioning support

Special thanks to Omexom and their sub-contractor Connels for the construction of the extension.
